The Fausold Endowment

The Fausold Family Endowment: Pennsylvania Politics and Public Education.

The Fausold Family Endowment has two goals. The first goal is to further enhance the collection of family manuscripts as sources of interest not only to members of the family, but, more importantly, to students of Pennsylvania social and political history. The second goal derives from the first. Through the endowment the family seeks to encourage a broad analysis of the interplay of politics and education in the sweep of Pennsylvania history. The need for such study is evident from the Guide to the History of Pennsylvania (Millersville University of Pa., 1993), which pointed up the void relating Pennsylvania politics and public education.

At the dedication of the John and Samuel Fausold Alcove, President Pettit expressed the hope that IUP would "get a corner" on research into the policy impact of partisan politics on public higher education in the history of the Commonwealth.

Implementation of these goals might include the following:

  1. The purchase and collection of scholarly materials and manuscripts pertinent to the subject of Pennsylvania and politics and higher education.
  2. The conducting of oral histories of educational and political leaders who previously were active in the administration and politics of public higher education.
  3. The encouragement of scholarly research on the subject of Pennsylvania politics and public education.
  4. The convening and recording of conferences of scholars, political figures, and academic administrators on the subject of the relationship of politics and public higher education in the history of the Commonwealth.

The family members and friends are also encouraged to donate letters and other family records for permanent deposit in the Fausold Family Collection and to support the growth of the Fausold Family Endowment with tax deductible contributions. Financial contributions may be to:
