Biographical Note

The town of Patton was founded in 1893. Shortly thereafter, the Patton Clay Manufacturing Co. commenced operation. The plant employed 100 men and made sewer pipe and paving and building brick. By the early part of the 20th century, the plant stretched for eight acres and included two factory buildings, thirty-seven lime kilns, and duplexes where its operations until the mid-1950's

Scope and Content Notes

The content of this collection includes letters dating back to 1898. The material contains detailed information concerning the filling and delivery of orders to a wide range of customers. Other items include correspondence and a commemorative booklet. This collection also contains material that deals with the George S. Good & Co. from 1898-1902. This company was a contracting firm located in El Paso, Texas with camps in Tucumcari, Mexico. Correspondence between the camps and the main office deal with requests for money and help with administrative problems and labor.
