Indiana College Club Collection
The Indiana College Club was organized in 1918, according to a letter in
the collection, because the members "felt that culture was important, but that [they]
had not been out of school long enough to know how little [they] knew." In 1920, the
group was active in establishing a scholarship fund, which was financed by the initiation
fee of $5.00. The club was limited to 50 members, all of whom were local college
graduates.
The Indiana College Club collection contains an overview of the club by Louise Walsh, an
Indiana University of Pennsylvania dean and a charter member. Their brief description
records the history of the organization from 1918 to 1949. Seven minute books, dating from
1920 to 1980, are also included, which record club activities of musicales, lectures and
general meetings. Eventually membership included college graduates from well beyond the
original geographical limits, extending throughout various states and even welcomed
representatives from other counties.
