Letters of Marion Spencer

Marion Spencer was born in Lancaster, PA in December of 1893. She attended Elmira College in Elmira, NY from 1912 to 1915. She came to Indiana Normal School as a member of the faculty in September of 1917.

Ms. Spencer's letters to her family back home in Lancaster provide unique insight into the life of a young college student and teacher in pre-War and World War I America. She was a very energetic and well-spoken young woman who wrote about daily life at Elmira and at the Normal School. Her letters also provided running commentary about worldly events and other topics such as religion, fashion, politics and literature.
