Ralph E. Heiges Collection
Ralph E. Heiges was reared in Shippensburg, PA. His education includes a
Normal School Certificate from Shippensburg in 1923, AB from Ursinus College in 1925, and
the AM and Ph.D. degrees in Social Studies from Columbia University. Heiges taught history
at Royersford High School, Royersford, PA, and government at Findlay, OH. At Clarion State
Teachers College, he taught Social Studies from 1934-1936.
Heiges came to Indiana State Teachers College in 1936 as Professor of Social Studies. In
1940, he was appointed Head of the Department, and June 1, 1942 Dean of Instruction.
Following the death of Dr. Uhler, he served as acting President of the college from August
25, 1947 to July 1, 1948.
The Ralph E. Heiges Papers deal with his years at Indiana and are limited to speeches,
articles he wrote, and source materials for these presentations.
