Jane Leonard Collection

Jane E. Leonard devoted the years of her active life to the profession of Teching, serving the Normal Schools of both Millersville and Indiana. Educated at Millersville, she remained there after her graduation as an instructor. She began her career at Indiana Normal School when it opened in 1875 as Preceptress and Instructor of English, where she remained until her retirement in 1920.

During her tenure at Indiana, Miss Leonard knew personally every graduate of the school. She lived in an apartment on campus and welcomed all students who wished to visit her. Her residence became a mecca for returning alumni, most of whom maintained an on-going relationship with "Aunt Jane."

These papers include some correspondence of Miss Leonard's, as well as a variety of miscellaneous articles and testimonials to her life and career at Indiana Normal.
