The Society for Pennsylvania Archaeology Collection
The Society for Pennsylvania Archaeology (SPA) was founded in 1929 and
incorporated in 1931. The society promotes the study of archaeology and the Native
American Cultures of Pennsylvania. The SPA holds an annual meeting at various places
throughout Pennsylvania. The SPA welcomes as members both amateur and professional
archaeologists as well as anyone who has an interest in the work of the society.
Today there are about twenty local chapters of the SPA which conduct programs and
conferences on the local level. The organization also publishes a quarterly journal,
Pennsylvania Archaeologist.
The collection consists of 18 boxes of material divided into three series that cover both the administrative aspects of the SPA and their work in the field. Several boxes contain draft and proof copies of the journal Pennsylvania Archaeologist.
