John Merryman Collection

John Merryman was born May 7, 1936. He attended the Bob Jones University in Greenville, South Carolina, where he graduated in 1961 to earn a B.A. and an M.A. in Religion. He also spent his summers attending the Winona Lake School of Theology continuing his study's until he began attendance at the University of Pittsburgh to attain a Doctorate in education. Then during the year of 1965, Merryman became an instructor of education at Gettysburg College. Moving on to become Assistant Professor at Geneva College, Lecturer at Pennsylvania State University, and then coming to Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 1967 to teach the Foundations of Education. Merryman finally received his Ph.D. from the University of Pittsburgh in 1968.

Merryman was one of the founders for the Society of Educational Reconstruction, and one of the initiators for the formation of Pennsylvania Foundations of Education Society. During his years at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, Merryman was a Co-Advisor for the Student P.S.E.A. House of Delegates, Counselor for Kappa Delta Pi, and he was a member of the President's Cabinet. He also was a Chairman of AAUP-APSCUF-PAHE, among many other things.
