Effie L. Shields Collection

Effie Shields graduated from the Indiana Normal School in 1906. She taught at Punxsutawney (5 years), and Pittsburgh (1 year) High Schools. During the First World War, Shields volunteered for duty with the YMCA, during which time she served as a canteen hostess in France at Camp Coetquidan, and at Le Mans after the Armistice.

This Collection consists of correspondence, clippings, photos and memorabilia of her time in France (October 1918 - June 1919) and a few items related to the period after her return in 1919 until her death in 1921.
