This photo appeared in the United Mine Workers Journal, October 1, 1922, p. 9. The caption under it read: "This picture shows a view of the miners' meeting recently held at Windber, Pa., and is a graphic illustration of the work of unionizing in the non-union fields of Pennsylvania. There were more than 3,000 miners gathered when the camera was snapped. Windber is the hotbed of Somerset county, District No. 2. James Gibson, president of local union 4207, Windber, says: 'We came out in April and are determined to stay out until we gain recognition. We have not had outside aid until now---and we are looking for help now.' By observing closely many of the men in the picture will be seen carrying United Mine Worker Journals in their hands."
