Retrospective
Purchasing Selection
criteria. In
these tight economic times, Bibliographers and Liaisons
must be highly selective in choosing retrospective
materials and resources for the Libraries.
Some criteria are: 1)
Relevance to the curriculum and appropriateness
to the Libraries’ mission 2)
Timeliness and lasting value of the content 3)
Strength of present holdings in the subject area 4)
Demand 5)
Cost 6)
Desirability of format – electronic format is
desirable 7)
Reputation or authoritativeness of author,
publisher, compiler, or producer As
a general rule, not more than 10% of a departmental
allocation should be spent on retrospective purchase.
